Chess Club meets once a week, on Wednesdays, from 3:15 - 4:15 in the school cafeteria. The program begins the week after Thanksgiving break and runs for 14 sessions (ending around the middle of March). Chorus with Mrs. Feldman. For thousands of years, in all cultures, in all parts of the world, people have been singing. Singing is in our genes and in human nature. The urge to sing - and to hear others sing - is in all of us. Singing - like laughter, play, sunshine, countryside and exercise - helps maintain our well-being and happiness. Mrs. Feldman offers a before school chorus opportunity for students in grades 2 and 3. They meet on Thursday mornings from 8:00-8:30. It is a great way to start the day! We also have choruses offered during the school schedule for Grades 4-6. It is thrilling to have so many students participating in these singing groups. Seasonal performances are held.
Band with Mrs. White starts in 4th grade. Students have an opportunity to learn a band instrument with Mrs. Coviello. Instrument choices include flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, percussion, and as students get older they can also choose tuba, french horn, oboe, or bassoon. Students develop both musical skills and life skills such as teamwork, self-discipline, problem-solving, and coordination.
Jazz Band with Mrs. White starts in 5th and 6th grade. Band students can join Jazz Band which practices after school once a week on Tuesdays. They play jazz, rock, latin, and pop music and students are exposed to genres of music beyond what they would learn in regular band.
LES Student Leaders
Student Council with Mrs. Fuller and Mrs. Sparks. Student Council is made up of 5th and 6th graders. They are responsible for recycling bins, morning announcements, collecting juice pouches and helping out with after school PTO functions. They participate in the food drive, Pennies for Patients and other community fundraisers.
